Aside from the importance of corporate responsibility, giving itself should be second nature. Having the means to provide and improve another person’s life is, to many people, a privilege and one that comes with its own self obligation. Acting on these powerful feelings of responsibility is a great way to reinforce our own personal values and feel like we are living in a way that is true to our own ethical beliefs.
Earlier this month, we visited Rumah Kanak-Kanak Triniti to bring some provisions and essential home items. This charity home is a registered society founded in 1999 with relevant licenses from the Welfare Department and MBPJ. The Home has about 20 children between the ages of 4 to 17. These children are either orphans or have been abandoned by single mothers/impoverished or abusive homes.
During our visit, we had the chance to speak with the children’s guardians and discuss some of the on-going challenges faced by the charity. Due to COVID19 and the strict regulations, most charity homes out there are currently accessing their reserves. As the guardian expressed covid-19 is already affecting their finance this year and they barely have enough to cover a month’s worth of essentials for the home. Events fundraising is key to the financial health of many organizations, it is the most affected. It is unfortunate to know that they have canceled their planned events due to the pandemic.
When it comes to individual giving, there are now concerns about regular giving being reduced due to people’s financial circumstances. This has caused some of the major donors to back out. Though there is still hope for potential new online donors.
We are hoping to raise awareness for Rumah Kanak-Kanak Triniti to get the support that they need.
